Birdhouse Haul

Last night as I was on my way to watch the next installment in the Starwars series, (I thought it was fantastic) I stopped in at Michaels (craft store) to do a little paroozing. As my lady and I were shuffling down one of the many hobby inspiring isles she pointed out a few bird houses to me.

As my eyes glanced down towards the bottom shelves I had to actively restrain my jaw from smashing into the floor. Then I saw a price tag: 8$. Eight lousy Canadian dollars! It was all that she could do to keep me from cleaning out the shelves. Just look at these puppies! (The big ones were 16$)

I placed one of my recently completed hovels for a style comparison.

Some minis for size and scale comparison.

I'll be adding some shingles to the roofs, some basing ballast around the bottoms and possibly a few plastic details to disguise the birdhouse feel. I'm still in shock at how perfect for Mordheim they are.

Equivalent sized buildings in plastic could run you from 200 to 1000 dollars depending on the level of detail you're looking for.  This mansion for instance goes for 182$ Canadian, and that's not including shipping. While I am comparing a dodge neon to a Lamborghini you can see my point.

I am hoping that paint will go a long way towards making them look the part, but even if they end up sticking out like sore thumbs I've only lost 50$.

  1. wow. That's a shockingly good scale comparison. I've been looking at stuff like this to fill out some buildings but I've got enough on my plate to worry about.

    1. The finished products look good, but I don't know how I feel about the laser cut mdf stuff. Looks like as much work to complete as a model!
